Škoda Transportation to deliver 20 double-decker coaches to VR

Škoda Transportation's Finnish subsidiary Transtech is set to deliver 20 new double-decker coaches to railway company VR Group, as part of a contract valued at more than €50 million. The new passenger cars can operate at a maximum speed of 200km/h and feature thermal insulation and pressure-tight aisles to make them suitable for the extreme cold weather of the Nordic region. The cars have been designed to comply with the latest safety standards, and feature an aluminium structure that can absorb the shock of an accident in order to minimise the effect on passenger compartments. Škoda Transportation vice-president Zdeněk Majer said: “We are very pleased that the option has been used, and 20 state-of the-art double-coaches are going to be soon in use for the passengers in Finland.”
