Analysts: Builders lack workers and materials because of war

(CIANEWS) - Growth in construction output is expected to continue in the coming months. It should be supported by the previous increase in the number of building permits issued, which rose by 5.8% y/y in 2021, Komerční banka's economist Martin Gürtler commented on the statistical data. Moore Czech Republic partner Petr Kymlička believes that the beginning of the construction season will be significantly affected by the consequences of the war conflict in Ukraine. He added that a large number of Ukrainian workers have left the Czech Republic and will be missed on construction sites. EKOSPOL CEO Evžen Korec pointed out that the war in Ukraine also poses a major problem in that the supply chain has been disrupted, which is beginning to manifest itself in a shortage of building materials. Currently, the most pressing situation concerns steel used, for example, in reinforcements. This is imported to the Czech Republic from Ukraine. This will most likely delay the completion of some large buildings.
