(CIANEWS) - An international team of researchers has elucidated a mechanism to increase the lifetime and efficiency of photovoltaic cells with a perovskite structure. The study was co-authored by the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (AV). Scientists specialising in NMR spectroscopy confirmed in the research that the type of additive used is highly efficient, and at relatively low concentrations allows the generation of a significant number of radicals. It also increases the lifetime of solar cells by limiting the range of side reactions. Another benefit of using the new additive is a significant reduction in the environmental burden compared to traditional additives.
