CR ranks 12th in EU in digitalisation and infrastructure

(CIANEWS) - The Czech Republic ranked 12th out of 27 countries in the European Union in the sixth pillar of the Czech Prosperity Index, which focuses on the level of infrastructure and digitalisation. The Index is produced by Česká spořitelna and Europe in Data. The Czech Republic fared worst in the assessment of the quality of roads (23rd place). The Czech Republic spends 3.6% of its GDP on transport annually, the third highest in the EU. The Czech Republic has the densest rail network, with 121.25 km of railways per 1,000 km2. It ranks 18th in public transport accessibility, with 90.4% of urban residents having a bus stop within 500 m of their home. High-speed internet access is available in 52.5% of the territory (22nd position). In sparsely populated areas, coverage is 7%. Building legislation and lack of demand are obstacles to scaling up. The Czech Republic ranks 20th in the digitisation of public administration. E-government is used by 68% of the population (15th place). Over 1.3 million users have a banking identity, and the Czech Republic ranks 9th in the EU in the use of internet banking.
