Finnish health technology exports continue to grow
Health technology exports from Finland totalled 2.3 billion euros in 2018, after increasing by 3.4 per cent year on year, according to export and import figures released by Healthtech Finland. The value of health technology exports has grown fivefold and the trade surplus more than tenfold over the past 20 years. Healthcare equipment such as patient monitoring and and x-ray machines made up 71 per cent of the exports. “Health technology is still one of the fastest growing high-technology export sectors in Finland,” commented Saara Hassinen, CEO of Healthtech Finland. Over 80 per cent of health technology products manufactured in Finland end up as exports. However, the existing health technology ecosystem in Finland ensures the high-tech solutions also end up in Finnish hospitals and boost local companies, as well as attract foreign capital. Currently the industry employs over 12 000 people in Finland.
