Helsinki region finally meeting its housing production target

The rate of housing production has finally picked up in the capital region with the number of building permits and residential construction projects increasing considerably between July 2015 and June 2016 – to over 15,000 permits and 16,000 residential units. The capital region fell well short of the targets laid out in the letters of intent for land use, housing and transport last year, with no more than some 11,500 completed residential units. The Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce is confident that the preconditions for a sustained period of growth in housing production are in place, as long as the municipalities are able to meet the land-use planning targets.
