Iceland to tackle gender pay gap with new legislation

The country's government announced a new law that will require every company with 25 or more staff to demonstrate pay equality. “The time is right to do something radical about this issue,” Iceland’s Equality and Social Affairs Minister Thorsteinn Viglundsson said. “Full gender equality will benefit all of us," the country’s Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson added. According to Minister Viglundsson, the move comes as part of a drive by the Nordic nation to eradicate the gender pay gap by 2022 when the law is to apply to all businesses disregarding the number of people they employ. Iceland has been dominating the World Economic Forum’s gender pay gap elimination ranking, followed by other Nordic countries – Sweden, Norway and Finland. - Idnes.cz -
