(ČIA) The negative impact of the pandemic and the second lockdown (since October 21, 2020) on the economy has so far been significantly lower compared to the first lockdown (March/April 2020). Based on electricity-consumption data, this statement was made by Czech National Bank’s Bank Council member Aleš Michl, adding that in the week that started on January 11, 2021, electricity consumption dropped 0.4% year-on-year after adjustments. In mid-April 2020, it was by up to 13.7% lower. Consumption increased 0.9% in November and 1.4% in December. If this trend continues, Michl expects the highest ever year-on-year GDP growth in the second quarter of 2021.
