NKÚ: Almost 90 % of increased spending not tied to covid

(ČIA) In its annual report, the Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ) points to the rate of increase in government debt, which can have serious implications for the sustainability of public finances. The record deficit of CZK 420bn was mainly due to an increase in current expenditures of more than CZK 59bn. In contrast, capital expenditures increased by CZK 4.5bn y/y. At the same time, the NKÚ stated that almost 90 % of the y/y increase in total expenditure was not related to covid-19. In response to the NKÚ report, Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura (ODS) pointed out that while today's opposition spoke of investing in the crisis, investments accounted for only a fraction of spending growth.
