(ČIA) According to ODS chairman Petr Fiala, the Czech Republic's indebtedness is growing almost the fastest in Europe. He said this in response to the government's draft budget for 2022, which foresees a deficit of CZK 376bn. If the state continues to waste money, he said, the threat of the country's bankruptcy is very real. He noted that between 2017 and 2020, spending increased by almost 50% (from CZK 1.22tn in 2016 to CZK 1.89tn). He added that savings of tens of billions of CZK could be made by removing subsidies to large companies, reducing non-investment spending or cutting bureaucracy. He said the government cannot blame the current dire situation on COVID.
