(CIANEWS) - In an accelerated proceeding on June 15, 2022, the Czech Senate passed an amendment to the energy act, submitted by the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade in reaction to the current crisis on the energy market caused by the war in Ukraine. The amendment introduces the use-it-or-lose-it regime whose purpose is to effectively utilise storage capacities in gas tank reservoirs. Apart from forfeiting the right towards the unused storage capacity, the amendment also defines steps to provide access to this capacity to other entities on the market. In addition, it shortens the duration of the Supplier of Last Resort regime to three months and changes the management of the Energy Regulatory Office (ERÚ) so that it is managed and represented by the chairman of the ERÚ Council. The Office will also set regulated prices so that they are at least cost prices.
