Sweden getting deposit-refund system for plastic bags

Now, the country is seeing the first trial of a similar deposit-return system for plastic bags. In response to new environmental provisions, the grocery store chain Hemköp has decided to take the concept of limiting plastic waste a step further. Hemköp was already first to shift from to conventional plastic bags to a type made from sugarcane, and now it will be the first to implement a deposit-return system for plastic bags as well. To begin with, one store in Stockholm has been selected for the trial. The system implies a price increase of SEK 0.5 on plastic bags, which is reimbursed when the bag is returned. Depending on how the trial goes, Hemköp will decide whether to apply the system at its other locations. (Business Insider Nordic)
