Sweden tests world’s first electric road

It is used by hybrid trucks receiving electrical power from pantograph power collectors. Developed by a partnership of Siemens and Scania, the trucks operate as electric vehicles when on the electrified road and as regular hybrid vehicles at other times. Unlike trolleybuses, hybrid trucks can connect to and disco nnect from the overhead power lines at any time. The project was inspired by Sweden’s ambition of a fossil-free vehicle fleet by 2030. Electric trucks’ emissions are 80-90% lower and their energy consumption 50% lower compared with standard trucks with engines burning fossil fuels. (IHNed.cz)
