West Iceland Named Europe’s Most Scenic Destination

According to the guide, West Iceland is special because although close to Reykjavík, its landscape, culture, and history make it feel very far removed from the big city. The guide celebrates the region for its natural diversity, which includes fjords, massive craters, volcanoes, and world-famous glaciers such as Snæfellsjökull and Langjökull (the second largest glacier in Iceland), as well as picturesque landmarks like Kirkjufell, which is said to be the most photographed mountain in Iceland. The region is also the setting of Icelandic Sagas. Luxury Travel Guide further states that West Iceland is not yet overrun with tourists, which enables visitors to experience the natural environment in relative seclusion. (Iceland Review)
