April 2021 / A holistic approach is one of the biggest weaknesses of public policy. The area of quality of life and housing is no exception. The state primarily focuses on only one aspect and directs its support primarily to reduce energy consumption. However, it overlooks the possible benefits and synergies of broader support for quality and healthy living. It is not just an abstract issue.

Mannvit Engineering has an ambitious goal: as geothermal energy source has the almost unlimited amount of heat generated by the Earth core, the potential of geothermal energy development is increasing. Even though It is hard to imagine this evolution in the Czech provenience, we need to look at the topic as a great supplementary source of clear energy for our neighbours. Looking at the global perspective, it gives even this country an ability to diversify its energy source and to rely on its European partners even further.

More than ever, people are demanding that businesses take an active role in shaping the narrative for not just a new normal, but a new better. They are increasingly demanding green products. And if we look at sustainability, we have to look and start with the energy sector. Sustainability has long ago become a business opportunity as renewables are competing with traditional energy systems. Nano Energies are aware of that. Starting with themselves.

Modern Energy Union

Energy market with renewables continues to grow, unfortunately too slowly. Companies don’t have enough playing field and the Czech government creates somehow unpredictable environments, especially for the mid- and long-term perspective. Coal lobby does not help. There however is huge potential with energy storage. Neighbouring countries are trying to maximise the potential. We should do it as well. The European modernisation fund could be an opportunity for players that want to innovate.

Architecture is intrinsically connected to the wellbeing of our society in many various ways. It is important to choose a holistic approach - we cannot look at only one of the sustainability goals. The detail is of crucial importance. And if we are talking about big cities, big scales and big projects, we cannot forget about all of the communities from various neighborhood and interconnectedness between them. The question whether we live inside or outside is not important; we live everywhere. Art should be part of the environment. We need to transform in order to become a resilient society.

Skanska Residential Development
Czech Republic
From our home to the whole planet is not as impossible as it might seem. Geographically it is far, not mentally. If we focus on our living values - physical and psychological health, spiritual well being, taking care of our surroundings and supporting our communities - we all share this. And Skanska is standing up to these values. Its recent projects reflect such values. Because there is no contemporary and healthy business without a healthy environment and people that inhabit it.

We are surrounded by a lot of noise. We keep experiencing more sound and more noise as we live in the city, move to home offices and commute. It affects us, our behaviour, effectiveness and health. There are spaces that need to be dealt with acoustically. Good materials are important as wrong solutions will not solve our acoustic problems, more like increase the negative effects. And this is where Ecophon brings a great advantage. It is important to beat in mind that everyone of us can influence the way we live and we surround ourselves with.
